The meeting will include reports on activities, financial statements, voting on By-Law revisions, elections of directors and a celebration of the growth of the Family Alliance affiliates and friends.

Transition to Adulthood: Best Practice Guidelines

The Hamilton Family Network has been working with CanChild Centre for Childhood Disability Research (McMaster University), Bloorview Kids Rehab and Laurentian University to develop best practice guidelines for transition to adulthood for youth with disabilities.

Welcome to all new members!

The Hamilton Family Network is a growing network of parents of children with disabilities, who are linked to resource people, professional and volunteer, who seek to implement innovative strategies to support and strengthen families. This network is dedicated to enhancing family supports by building on those strengths found in diverse family structures rather than focusing on correcting weaknesses.

Philosophy of Hamilton Family Network
 
Empowered parents have the capacity to create solutions and opportunities for their family member with a disability.

Parents are an essential source of expertise with respect to their son or daughter.

Informed, involved and confident families are the most effective agents for social change.
Goals of the Hamilton Family Network

To decrease family stress and isolation by matching experienced families with families whose childen have been recently dieagnosed as having a disability or who are facing a particular challenge related to the disability
To increase the confidence and skills of families by providing emotional support, informational support

To increase the families' knowledge and use of community resources

To enhance the education, understanding and sensitivity of those who work with families by identifying and supporting families in their role as community faculty

To be an ongoing resource to families, health care providers, educators, policy makers, agency directors and others in the design, implementation, and evaluation of programs for families and persons with disabilities
